Americans can start ordering more free COVID-19 test kits from the federal government once again.

The Biden administration is mailing out four more rapid at-home COVID tests per household ahead of the holidays. You can order them online via the United States Postal Service at special.usps.com/testkits or by calling 1-800-232-0233. You can also visit covid.gov/tests to request the free testing kits.

You’ll be asked to fill out your name and mailing address to get the free tests. And you can provide an email address to receive confirmation of your order, or to track your delivery.

“As we have throughout the pandemic, the federal government continues to leverage all capabilities to support state, local, territorial and Tribal communities to prepare for, prevent and respond to increased incidence of COVID-19,” the White House said in a statement.

Every home in the U.S. is allowed to order these tests, regardless of whether the residents ordered tests during any of the previous rounds of free COVID test from the government, according to the COVID.gov site. The COVID tests will ship for free starting the week of December 19, 2022.

During one of the previous COVID test order windows, the free tests typically shipped within seven to 12 days of ordering, the White House said, with most tests being delivered by the USPS within 48 hours of shipping.

The federal government has delivered free COVID tests directly to people’s homes on several occasions since the pandemic began. But it’s been three months since it last sent out free at-home testing kits.

The White House is also urging people who have not received their COVID vaccination to do so, and it is also advising COVID booster shots for those who already received their initial vaccination.

The latest round of free rapid at-home tests comes as the number of new COVID-19 infections in the U.S. is about 65,000 every two weeks, per the New York Times tracker. The U.S. leads the world with 99.7 million cases and 1,086,199 fatalities.
